By offering a guest post slot on my blog for other people, I felt like I was giving something back. I honestly felt emotional and proud to host some of the amazing writing I will talk about in this post.
And best of all, I got feedback like this:
Guest posting is a way for us to strengthen our relationships in the blogging world. To support one another and share in our talents. For this reason, guest posts are still open on my blog and you can send your ideas using this form.
But I also wanted to dedicate a blog post to talking about the benefits of guest posting
Your writing can be seen by a wider audience, especially if you’re new to blogging
The reality is, not many people will see your writing when you start publishing. But don’t be disheartened! Google ranking takes time. Social media promotion can be tedious, but it also pays off. After three months I saw the results of my hard work.
Think of it like this. If you don’t tell anyone you’re writing is there, how will they know? Imagine the millions of Google searches each day and how hard it is to find one specific piece of writing. You have to trust the process.
You will make lasting connections with other bloggers
Some of the relationships I’ve formed by communicating with other bloggers via email are valued to this day. It’s refreshing to make contact via another communication method, other than Twitter. It’s also lovely to chat with other creative minds about your writing and get feedback.
Improving your domain authority (DA) score
For anyone who doesn’t know (I didn’t when I first started blogging) I am going to trust another source with explaining. I am not the most technical person, hehe!
MY DA score started off low, but jumped to 15 after three months of immense hard work, day and night. And now it’s at 22. Backlinks from higher authority websites will improve your DA score. Who wouldn’t want to do that? Whilst also building lasting relationships.

In recent months I’ve also expanded where I publish my writing. Some of what I want to say doesn’t fit with the topics on this blog and it’s refreshing to publish on another platform.

Final thoughts
I hope you’ve enjoyed reading this post. I will be regularly updating it with new guest posts.
Let me know if you’ve read the posts above, or whether you missed them the first time and you’re checking them out again.
What are your thoughts on guest posting? I would love to hear from you in the comments below.
This post was enlightening. Guest posting has been on my mind for some time. I wanted to learn more about it before I got into it. Thanks for sharing and congrats on your score!
Thank you. And I would say, just go for it.
I must admit that I haven’t done guest posting in a long, long time and may have to think about getting back into it to help my DA. It has nosedived -5 points in the last month (possibly related to taking time off in April — who knows). Thanks for this really useful information!
I’ve just done a few more guest posts since writing this post and I really enjoy it. Finding time to write for my blog and others is challenging though. I’m sure your DA will creep back up again. Mine does fluctuate sometimes.
This is valuable information. One shares their talents in a post, the other shares a spot on a blog with a larger audience and both sides benefit. Great post.
thank you – I totally agree. It benefits everyone!
Oh yes it makes such a difference.
Definetely!
Guest posting is such a great way to improve your DA and put yourself out there! We love doing it, and sometimes wish we had more time to do more of it, it’s always fun to see the feedback on other people’s blogs and found reading the comments fascinating x
I love it too! I also wish I had more time to write and blog, but that’s the challenge!
So great you got your DA to jump like that! Good for you.
Thank you. I worked very hard to get where I am with the blog, but it’s worth and it definitely works.
Thank you for sharing this article. I never knew guest posting can improve your DA score and thanks for the concise explanation too.
It’s a great way to get backlinks to your blog and get recognised by readers of other blogs.
Thank you for sharing this perspective. I’ve been thinking about DA recently and from what I can tell, it’s a number that brands want more than anything. I love the idea of hosting guest posting in relation to expanding/ sharing information with your readers that may be outside of what you typically write. I definitely want to do that. One of these days, I would like to do the same for someone else’s readership, but I think I need to get more comfortable and consistent with my own writing first.
I totally agree with waiting a bit. The first few months of my blog were just finding my feet and everything else has come in time.
Love this! I still accept guest posts on my blog to help new bloggers. Congrats on your DA!
I am glad to hear you’re accepting guest posts. I love the whole process of interacting with bloggers in this way.
Love this. I agree connecting with the writing community is so important. I genuinely appreciate the support. Guest posting has been great as well. Thank you for sharing this.

It’s a great way to interact, isn’t it? I also love the amazing support in the blogging community.
Oh I love this! It’s really impressive that your DA increased so much and I’ve also been lucky enough to do a few guest posts – and you can’t deny the results! Thank you so much for sharing x
It’s great we all support each other in this way.
Totally agree with this and guest posting on higher DA blogs that yours can be a HUGE help in boosting your own DA! Although my DA is already quite high (35) so I find it more difficult to find bloggers with a higher DA who are happy to accept guest posts but I do on occasion and it’s helped my DA massively!
It’s great to hear from other bloggers that it helps. It was one of the main factors which helped me and I have made lasting partnerships.
It is also nice to communicate via email, instead of Twitter for a change, haha!
I don’t guest post, I think in 10 years of blogging I’ve been interviewed twice. I think I’ve hosted another blogger once. I think a lot of people worry about DA when actually the only people it really attracts are those wanting paid backlinks – which I won’t do follow links anyway as 80% of my traffic is from google and I’m not risking that. Before DA appeared, noone took any notice of Google’s page rank, and DA wasn’t important. Now all new bloggers worry about it. It’s not worth the effort.
My main blog was at 44 (now at 39-40 post the Moz algorithm/method change) with no effort other than being blogging for quite a long time. My 2nd blog got up to 21 with no effort for a tiny niche – I commented on a few posts from other dance bloggers but there’s not many around anyway. And my 3rd blog is on about 5 after a month.
I’d prefer to concentrate on good content for my own blog, get natural links if they come, and build traffic for advertising opportunities rather than selling for SEO people. (I do have some SEO posts on my main blog, but they’re with sponsored or nofollow links and are few and far between).
Thank you for giving me another perspective on how to grow visibility. I am trying to do it all at the moment 🙂 and it is frustrating when algorithms change!
Guest post is very helpful, but it requires a lot of effort. That’s good you got high DA. Good job on your awesome work!
Thank you. I totally agree, I have worked VERY hard over the last 8 months.
That’s really interesting that your DA jumped so much within such a short space of time. Congrats on all your hard work – unpaid guest posting and hosting isn’t something I’ve undertaken so far but it may be something I look at in the future. Congrats on DA 22!
Thank you. I mainly did it to improve partnerships within the blogging community and to support others. The DA benefits are also amazing.
