Our Family Day Out To Eureka Children’s Museum – MCA review

PR Trip – tickets were gifted in exchange for a review.

Eureka science museum has been around since I was a kid. The researcher in me found out the exact date. Eureka! The National Children’s Museum in Halifax opened on July 9, 1992. I was born in 1985. Not sure why I revealed my age on this blog, but here we are!

Eureka Children's Museum

Everyone in our local area goes to the museum on their school trips, and it really is a staple in the area. Therefore, I was honestly super honoured to accept PR tickets – to experience a day out with my family. I was genuinely excited for this day out and to introduce my little girl to all the sights. We had both visited on her school trip when she was in reception class (4 years old), but we were limited as to what we could see on the day! I will say, the staff are amazing at coordinating the school trips. They were amazing – sorting out all the lunches and giving educational talks in the separate building across from the museum. We just wanted a visit with more freedom this time.

Some of the bits I loved the most about our day at Eureka

Buggy stations

As a new parent, there is nothing worse than visiting an attraction with a lack of facilities for babies and children. It used to really annoy me when I first had my little girl. Although I am no longer a brand-new parent, I am a huge advocate for adequate facilities for parents.

Accessibility

Eureka Children's Museum

The museum is adequately signposted with accessibility information. There are lifts, ramps and facilities for disabled guests.

Just look at the poster. The museum is doing what every business and attraction in the UK should be, but unfortunately, we all know that not everywhere you visit for a family day out is like this.

What I was most impressed with was the SEN provision – there are posters dotted around explaining what to do if you have kids who may struggle with the environment, 10/10 for this!

Facilities for under 5’s

Eureka Children's Museum

Upstairs, you will find a craft room for children under 5 years old, which overlooks the museum and seems quiet – the perfect place for little ones to rest. Right next door, there is also a smaller cafe with baby-changing facilities, toilets, and a lift. Facilities like this ensure the whole family can have a fun day out. And giving little ones the rest they need usually means you can stay a bit longer.

There is also an outdoor playground specifically for under-5s, in addition to a soft play and magical garden area downstairs in the museum.

There is also enough space to roam, push prams, and let little ones run.

Outside Space

The outside space is lovely for summer. Unfortunately, it was raining on the day we visited. Here’s what you will find outside:

Marque

Play area

Same pot

Ice cream hut

Sandpit

Musical instrument

Picnic tables

Sensory gardens

Other amenities I loved the most, and practical tips

We spent about 3 hours walking around the museum, and the benches for parents to sit down whilst walking around are a joy. You will notice all kinds of bench-creations, and it’s nice to take the weight off.

The Staff – Every member of staff we met on the day was friendly, knowledgeable and happy to help!

The location – Eureka is right next to Halifax train station, you can either catch a train or drive!

Final Thoughts

We loved our visit. If you get a chance, please visit. You can opt to buy an annual pass for 12 months when you buy one entry, which is fantastic for parents and carers who will be returning.
