I took part in the blogtober challenge last year. It was an extremely busy month, but I also managed to release a lot of blog posts, which massively helped my engagement.
In October 2021, my blog was only three months old and therefore I was still in the growing phase.
The post will outline how the challenge can help you engage more with other bloggers. Therefore increasing page views and how many people view your writing.
Halloween is my favourite time of year and I secretly spend the summer waiting for a scary Halloween party and some spooky fun!
What is blogtober challenge?
Blogtober is an annual event held every October. It involves posting one blog per day, every day of the month. Because I was brand new to blogging when the blogtober challenge came up last year, I only made it part way through. However, I was proud of the progress I made.
As you can see from the archive on my website –
October 2021 is still the month in which I released the most blog posts. And I managed to release some pretty important content:
it is completely up to you whether to have a Halloween-related theme or use this month to talk about a range of subjects on your blog. You will see from the posts above, I did a bit of both. It was also Mental Health Awareness Week, which I believe is a great time to raise awareness of the issues I discuss on my blog.
How to get involved
You can get involved by searching the blogtober hashtag on Twitter. If you are part of the blogging community, get involved with fellow bloggers. You could participate in a blogging tag, and nominate other bloggers to join in. It really is a fun month and I cannot wait for it to come around again.
However, please rest assured that I would only recommend brands I would buy from myself
We all love a slogan T-Shirt, right? I have many, And something I love to represent with my style is the topic of mental health and helping the environment. If you also want to represent these important issues and let everyone know it’s okay to talk, then you’re in the right place. I am an advocate for great causes!
I’ve wanted to write a guide on unique businesses offering these products for a while. And now it’s here. And, I have some fantastic brands lined up just for you.
We’re based in Portishead with a view of the Severn estuary and the Welsh hills! So, seaside air and a sense of light and space surround us. Sustainability and not contributing to a world with too much waste and stuff are really important to us, so the organic cotton and sustainable printing and manufacturing processes used to make our clothes and accessories are key.
I’m a mum to two and in our family, we have a great love of nicknames. Names get mangled until they are unrecognisable. It’s how my husband’s mum became Moo – I call her that too! And my kids call their gran, Gran Moo. Like all mums, I lose my cool sometimes and think of myself as going into Angry Cow mode, so when my 5-year-old brought home a picture she’d drawn of a cow that looked so adorably angry – the name of the Angry Cow store was born!
It’s a place to be creative and my 5-year-old has a hand in some of the designs as you might notice!
Sarah kindly agreed to send both me and my little one our favourite design so we could create some fun content for you all. I love the shirt so much, that I am even wearing it for work. And everyone loves the design. I patricianly loved the slit design at the side, which makes it more comfortable for me and it hangs better.
You can also get free shipping from Friday 29th July to midnight on Sunday 31st of July, when ordering through this store.
I created my t-shirt brand in January 2018 and launched a website alongside to showcase my t-shirt line. The birth of Teela Jam came about from the acronym T.E.A.L which means together express and love. I was feeling stuck after having my son, suffering from postnatal psychosis, and I wanted more out of my life. Teela Jam gave me a way forward to put out positive messages, get creative and advocate on issues such as mental health and many others including sexual health, healing holistically and parenting. Teela Jam focuses on three themes which include self-love, personality and confidence. Its overall aim is to support people to be themselves in a world that tells them not to be and as well as that to not feel stuck by the hard times.
PLEASE NOTE – I am recommending Mind, Body & Sole because they do amazing charity work. They did not sponsor this post
You may have seen me promoting this charitable organisation on Twitter. If you missed, it please check out their posts.
This evening we have been in touch with the police to help support an individual in crisis and worked with the police to make sure this person got the right support and to safety.
I purchased a T-shirt a while ago and I wanted to include the brand here today, simply because they do such fantastic work helping people in need. I personally want it to continue and I will do what I can to help the cause.
Check out their online shop. And help someone in need.
I am so excited to be working with The Spark Company and I love their mental health-related T-shirts.
A bit about how The Spark Company began
Welcome to Spark, a community for anyone who believes in the radical notion that everyone should be treated equally.
We’re what people call feminist killjoys, a term that we’re actually quite proud of. We’re here to put our money where our ‘loud feminist’ mouths are, creating apparel and accessories that scream feminism + equality while whispering quality + sustainability seductively (and consensually) in your ear at the same time.
We know that ethical shopping is important to our community, and we ain’t no pump and dump brand. We’re all in, meet your parents, stand outside in the rain with a speaker above our head kinda into this, and we want you to be too.
Final thoughts
I hope you enjoyed reading all about these wonderful brands.
I think you will agree we have a great list of meaningful apparel sellers:
Businesses born out of tough circumstances
Small businesses – which I love promoting
Mental health advocates
Advocating for women’s rights
Sustainable clothing
What are your favourite designs?
And will you be ordering any of these amazing items?
Before children, we used to date each other a lot. We had endless date night ideas. We went on a 5* holiday to Mexico, had numerous hotel stays. Nights out and shopping trips were a regular occurrence.
We would regularly go out for Friday happy hour and I would leave my work colleagues to go ‘date’ my now hubby. I classed it as being more important. We would order bottles of wine in a fancy wine bar, along with tapas. Sometimes I would go get my hair done first. Wonderful memories.
We had fun. I have no regrets about the lack of social interactions we have now.
Undoubtedly life has now dramatically changed. We have to be a little more creative with our date night ideas. There is no avoiding the fact we can’t just go out when we want to. Even on days off, we have nursery pick-ups to sort out, and responsibilities that come along with looking after a toddler.
Because we both lived life to the fullest at University, then together, we have no regrets. There isn’t a single day I’m resentful for the life I have now. It’s just another amazing chapter, which is different from the social life we had before.
Whatever life throws at us, it is important to fit in some time to still date each other. Anyone who’s experienced the full force of a toddler will know you can’t even have an adult conversation in their presence. They get angry at not being acknowledged. And sometimes this could mean toys being thrown at you. A ‘date’ for us could be as insignificant as an hour-long conversation, without ‘toddler’ interruptions.
Here is a rundown of the practical alone time we’ve managed to fit into our hectic schedule recently:
Walking
We love walking, but with a toddler, we are limited as to the walks we can go on until she is a little bit older.
On a recent rare weekday together, when she was at nursery, we walked together and it was lovely. Just the two of us, talking, taking pictures, and saying hello to the other walkers. Because it was a weekday, it was fairly quiet and we had a beautiful landscape with bluebells and a lovely river all to ourselves.
We did this walk when I was newly off work following my breakdown and it helped me. I still look back at the pictures and think I’ve come a long way since then. During the walk, I thought I would never feel better again.
Watching films
The perfect date night idea. We can now only do this when we have a night together, without a toddler running around. Because we can, we usually end watching a three-hour film.
For me it has to be epic, otherwise, I am wasting my time. I am very picky when selecting films.
Who knows, we might even make it to a cinema soon!
Wandering around the supermarket
It may sound simple, but wandering around a supermarket, a shop, walking with a coffee, is amazing when you don’t have to chase after a toddler or carry three large bags of supplies around with you.
There is also the element of doing something for ourselves. When we visit a shop as a twosome, we might purchase an item of clothing for ourselves, a scented candle. Instead of thinking about buying for the little one.
We get time to just be adults, which is very important to being a successful parent.
Going for a coffee
The ultimate date night idea. COFFEE DATE!
We recently popped into a brand new Starbucks drive-through and sat outside in the sunshine with a lovely coffee together, before a nursery pickup.
It was amazing, to have time to chat and be still for a while. Nowhere to be and not a care in the world. we all need this!
Jump in the car and see where it takes you! The benefit of doing this without a toddler, is loud music, car chatter and not thinking about nappy changes, potential car sick of retrieving the dummy which as just thrown on the floor!
Final thoughts
Do you have any creative date night ideas? I would love to know in the comments below.
I will be honest and say, when I started this blog, I was mentally and emotionally in a bad place. It was two months since my mental breakdown and I felt I HAD to do something to help others. Writing for the blog and making connections throughout the mental health and blogging community was my lifeline. All of it pulled me out of a dark place. But I wasn’t yet ready to reveal more about my life.
The reason for my hesitance was fear and lack of self-confidence. I still thought my toxic workplace could impact me and I wasn’t sure whether my writing would be well received. As I was already in a vulnerable position, it was the correct decision to start an anonymous blog.
Recently I slowly started changing this and you can see some of my posts where I reveal more about my life below:
Anonymous blog VS sharing more about your life
There are great reasons to start an anonymous blog. Internet safety is a huge factor and whilst I am willing to reveal more about my life, I certainly won’t be publishing every detail. You can read more about the pros and cons here.
Check out the interview I did for ClaireMac’s blog, where I discuss online privacy and how much I would be comfortable sharing about my child.
Introvert vibes
Throughout my life, I’ve often done things by myself, but community and honesty are what brought me back to living my life.
Along with my personal development and the significant changes I’ve made to my life, it was time to fully step into my comfort zone and embrace the change needed.
What’s next?
This month I’ve had my work cut out for me with a video editing project for my speaker slot at the Mental Health Blog Awards. It was my first time editing a video and to say I hit many roadblocks along the way is an understatement. But this is how you learn and grow. I am proud of myself.
As well as appearing at the awards, I am considering updating my social media profile pictures. Whilst I am not at the TikTok dancing stage just yet, it’s time for other people to connect with the face behind the blog. I will use whatever means necessary to get my message out there.
Why I’m impressed by sensory retreats self-warming eye mask
Quick note: Some of the links contained on this page are affiliate links and if you go through them to make a purchase, I will earn a commission. I only recommend products I use myself and thinkwould be useful for you.
Okay, I’ve never come across a product like this before and therefore I wasn’t sure what to expect.
I was excited to be gifted a box of two eye masks to try. Simply because I’m a tired mama and I care immensely about my own wellbeing and the wellbeing of others. No matter what your situation in life, we all need a little self-care. Even if you struggle to find time, it’s important to make time. Recommended for 25 minutes, these masks fit perfectly with short snippets of relaxation.
Each week I do have one child-free day, thanks to my parents. It’s usually filled with cleaning, catching up on my never-ending to-do list. Or food shopping. However, on this occasion, I relished the opportunity to make time for self-care and review this product. Thank you for providing me with some much-needed relaxation sensory retreats.
If you would like some relaxation – keep reading…
So what did I think?
Opening the box felt special. As you can see from the packaging, this would make a perfect self-care gift for someone special in your life. I couldn’t wait to try it and indulge in relaxation.
If you’re struggling with what to buy for mother’s Day, this could be the perfect solution.
The fragrance
The masks I received had a faint rose smell. It was lovely, but not at all overpowering. Every now and then you got a whiff of it and felt more relaxed.
The mask itself
In the past, I’ve only ever used cooling eye masks. Therefore I was a bit apprehensive about the effect heat would have and also how these masks would self-heat.
The material is so light and breathable and the heat starts gradually, to a relaxing level. Think of an all-day heat pad on your back, but much more relaxing and fragrant.
The experience
If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll know I love setting the mood. Following my mental breakdown, it’s important for me to have daily touches, like candles and diffusers. It really does lift my mood and make me feel better. Especially if I have a bad day.
When trying the masks, I lit candles, put on some yoga music on Spotify. And took the opportunity to do absolutely nothing. With a toddler running around the house, it’s rare to get these moments. And it was absolutely lush.

Opening the gift
I was so excited when I received the package in the post. The box was small and compact and if I received this as an unexpected gift, I would be so excited to open it and find out what was hiding inside. I love the idea of this gift, simply because it works. On my mental health blog, I talk about how vital self-care was when recovering from my breakdown last year. And how positive thinking does work.

Our Twenty Minute Candles came about when we put together a small box of beeswax candles and handwritten affirmation cards for a close friend who was struggling in lockdown, to help her relax and restore her well-being… and she loved them!
Lose yourself for twenty minutes of restorative time by slowing down and living in the moment with our ‘Twenty Minute Candles’.
Pure beeswax, our candles burn cleanly with a gentle honey aroma aiding relaxation and mindfulness.
Why a gift like this can make a difference
Something as simple as lighting a candle would help me, following my breakdown. I’ve also adopted positive thinking and I am a huge fan of affirmation cards. Because telling ourselves positive things does work. Together with other factors which helped me recover, I now feel like a new person. As such, I place a huge value on items like this and spend some of our weekly budget buying self-care items.
A small gift like this can work wonders for someone struggling or brighten up their day.
I know some of you reading this are part of the mental health community on Twitter. A kind, supportive group of people and I constantly see posts about giving gifts to other people in the community. This gift would be perfect to raise someone’s spirits during a difficult time.
Some of you are also busy parents and mummies in desperate need of some TLC. Based on the fact I don’t get much time these days for self-care, I was excited to try these products when my little one was at nursery. A quick, easy solution. To feel relaxed in the small windows of time I get to myself.

Here’s what happened when I lit the candles
I combined these amazing, cute little candles with another self-care gift. I set the scene, had another read through my affirmations and said them out loud. In my current life situation, I need them. And I will be using them over the next few weeks when I hopefully have some big, exciting changes coming up in my life.
During the candle burning, I felt relaxed and restored.

Let me know what you think in the comments below – I would love to hear from you.
I am on a mission to find new and inventive ways I can focus my attention on a menial task and mentally unwind. I previously wrote about my love of playing phone games to help with my mental health. Well, I’m back again with more suggestions on how you can grab those moments and make use of your time, to quiet your mind.
My motivation for writing this post comes from my need to look after myself for a little while. I had a tough year in 2021 and the factor weighing me down is now over. However, I still feel flat and worn out from my negative workplace experiences. It is time to prioritise myself for a while and indulge in self-care.
READ ON FOR MY TIPS ON HOW TO USE SELF-CARE TO REDUCE STRESS
A quick face mask
I have several face mask products that are easy to use. They give my skin a boost, but don’t take long to wash off or leave a mess afterward. Take time to replenish yourself, even if it’s just for five minutes.
This is my favourite way to mentally unwind, and I particularly love the sheet face masks, because they are so quick and easy to use.
Some shower products that bring calm
As a Christmas present, someone bought me a Sanctuary Spa set and it includes some luxurious shower oil. If I am having a down day, I use the shower oil and it makes me feel revived again.
My family knows me well and they understand I need to mentally unwind.
A few pages of a book
If you follow the blog, you will know I struggle to fit in time to read books. For this reason, I have set up the Goodreads challenge for 2022. I now also take on board the point, you can’t be a great writer unless you read varied materials. And I want to become a great writer! Reading and writing are methods I’ve always used to mentally unwind and I intend to do more of this.
Seek out more online games
You will all be aware, sometimes you get sick of the games you play on your phone. Because playing games helped my mental health, I must find one to keep my mind stimulated. Following my recent post, all about my love of phone games, it was time to find some more.
My search landed me here. From first logging onto the plays.org website, I was instantly impressed by the ethos and the story behind the creation of the website. Both my hubby and I grew up playing games. Suffice to say, we are both huge fans of games as a way to mentally unwind and take us away from the pressure of daily life for a while.
What impresses me the most about the website is no advertising. Given my history with mental health, I can fall into addictive patterns. Games which ask me for more money as a way to unlock levels are dangerous. It would be easy for me to become obsessed and then disappointed, rather than feeling a sense of achievement.
For anyone who wishes to play the games themselves, I have included a few screenshots for you below.
The games are easy to play. Logging into the website is quick and easy and you are instantly presented with colourful and clear instructions about how to proceed, as shown in the screenshots.
I am particularly loving one of the new games, colorush. What I love about this game is you can pause it to set up the barriers. It stimulates your mind, trying to work out where the colour will go. I also got a burst of satisfaction at going it right, seeing the colour head towards the pot.
Super spice dash is the next game I found and I was honestly chuckling at the fact you’re playing with a popcorn chicken. It’s so cool. I opted to tilt my phone to steer, which meant the game was interactive.
I then decided to play neon invaders. Homage to space invaders and just as fun to play. I think this will be a favourite of mine when I have five minutes to de-stress.
Have a bubble bath
The perfect way to mentally unwind is a hot bubble bath. Radox is my best friend. After a day of running around after a toddler, a nice relaxing bath to melt away the aches and pains is the perfect solution. I regularly have a hot bath before bed, to unwind from the day and relax. I’ve just bought some Pukka nighttime herbal teas and they are amazing.
I like to have something to do whilst I am in the bath. I play games on my phone and also catch up with Twitter, especially if I haven’t got much done that day.
Buy some fresh flowers
My hubby used to buy tiger lilies for the house and they smell amazing. If I am feeling a bit down, I pick up a small bunch of flowers from the supermarket. I also love it when daffodils make an appearance. A small touch like this can help you feel a sense of calm.

Walk aimlessley
I mean, we all walk with a purpose don’t we? For a functional reason. We are getting from A to B. But to mentally unwind, try walking aimlessly. Just set off, with no limit on time and see where the journey takes you. Following my mental breakdown, I did this daily and it improved my outlook on life. This being the case, I know for a fact sitting in nature and getting some fresh air can do wonders for you.
Sit on a bench and watch the world go by
This is another thing I did daily following my breakdown to mentally unwind. If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen some of my reels from the local park. It’s exactly where I sat last year. The difference now is I am not the same person. Yes, I will always suffer from high levels of anxiety and bouts of depression. I don’t expect it to ever disappear and I have fully accepted it won’t. But, I know how to manage it better now and my mindset has vastly changed from the person I was a year ago.
Final thoughts
I hope you enjoyed reading my run down of activities you can do to mentally unwind.
What do you do to mentally unwind? Is there a favorite activity you have when you’re limited to time?
I would love to hear from you in the comments below.
I know everyone is talking about Christmas, but I’m not ready to let go of Halloween just yet. Can we keep talking about Halloween?
One last look back at the fun we had before I put the decorations away until next year.
I had big ambitions for Halloween this year. As part of the blogging community, I loved the build-up of autumn-related content and the excitement of the impending spooky season.
But parenting wears you down. I no longer have the energy to preplan Halloween parties and make Halloween-themed food. I wish I did. Maybe next year…

Despite the lack of proper planning or big extravagant celebrations, we did have a lovely family celebration, and to be honest, I loved it more than the big parties. Maybe it’s just our life now. With a toddler running around, there are only limited activities available and she is still a little young to fully participate in everything Halloween has to offer.
A look back at our pumpkin adventure and Halloween activities
Pumpkin picking then decorations
As with everything in parenting, Halloween was a fun last-minute celebration for us.
Following an afternoon of pumpkin picking, we were truly in the Halloween spirit and very excited to carve our pumpkins.
A visit from my family made us even more excited.
Our celebrations were then completely unplanned. We proceeded to get the Halloween decorations out of storage and our little one loved rooting through them.
We put Halloween songs on Alexa, danced around, tried on outfits. We put a few decorations up and then of course we had to watch Ghostbusters. And introduce our little one to the Slimer Teddy we’ve had for years.
It was a fun night.
Our usual fun night outwith family
The following night was spent with my parents. After a few drinks, our little girl dressed in her Halloween outfit with Tutu. We had a walk to the shop to fill her bucket with treats. And then an impromptu meal out, all celebrating together.
A wonderful evening.
HALLOWEEN!!
Sunday was a chilled day, in the afternoon we carved our pumpkins.
My hubby did a fab job and we let our little deocrate the smaller ones. This year we managed to pick up some small quirky ones. I’ve honestly never seen any pumpkins like this before and they add to the decoration in the living room.
Final thoughts
Can we all just agree to treat Halloween like Christmas from now on please? Leave our decorations up, talk about the aftermath, and don’t be so eager to get to Christmas yet. Thank you in advance.
Let me know how you celebrated Halloween in the comments below. Let’s keep the spooky season alive for another, final moment.
Looking to book an overnight stay?? For those who can’t wait, here is the all-important button to book:
I love this hotel chain, simply because everything you could want is onsite. You park the car, forget about it, check-in and there is so much to entertain you for the duration of your stay.
How many people have checked into a hotel and something was missing? Sometimes it is strikingly obvious, sometimes you can’t put your finger on it. I’ve never had this feeling at a Village Hotel. I have had this feeling many times at other hotel chains. Booking an overnight stay isn’t always easy if you haven’t stayed somewhere before.
You can find more information about what to expect from your stay at Village hotels here.

I would estimate we’ve stayed at our local hotel about 5-10 times previously, and I can’t wait to return soon.
The process during our previous stays
Upon checking in you are greeted by a friendly member of staff. I love that the check-in desk is a cube-shaped station, where staff can walk around to greet you. They all have fancy tablets and the whole experience just seems more friendly than standing at a long desk (usually I can’t see over the desk). There is more of a friendly, personal vibe at Village hotels.
Booking revolution
It seems they now have a free membership programme where you can get exclusive benefits. Find out more here.
They also have great offers and more details can be found here.
Technology
They have improved their technology since the pandemic. You can use your phone as a room key, click & collect food, and even find Alexa in some rooms. When we stayed there was a large TV with a Sky package and a Tassimo coffee machine. All of these elements add to the comfort of your stay.
The App
We all like an easy way to book an overnight stay! Download the Village Hotels app and you can do the following:
NEW FEATURES INCLUDE:
1. Check-in before you arrive.
2. Get your room key delivered straight to your smartphone.
3. Pre-order food and drink in the Pub and Grill and reserve a table to dine in.
4. Order and pay for food and drinks in the Pub & Grill. You must book a table in advance Book now
5. Pre-order drinks in Starbucks. Click and collect only.
You can even work from here and there are membership options for businesses. See more here.
When do I move in and split my time between blogging and the spa – I can dream!
Summary
Before booking your overnight stay, I would just check whether there are additional charges for use of the facilities or extras. The website mentions there could be charges when they are at full capacity.
How to book
I don’t know about you, but I’m going to do a search now and plan my next stay. I can feel the relaxation already. I just have to arrange a stay for our little one at the grandparents.
In the meantime, here are some blog posts for ideas on keeping the little ones entertained:
Here are the buttons you need to book…
